Tirupati Trip Plan: Things to Do on a 2 Day Visit

The two day plan we give every relative going for the first time.

First time

What we wish someone told us

On our first visit we reached Tirumala without a ticket, without a room and in jeans. We were sent back to change and then sat in the free line for 18 hours. A little planning would have made it a calm, happy trip.

This plan keeps things simple: book early on the TTD website, keep one day for darshan and one for the rest.

Quick answer: Two days are enough for a first visit. Book the ₹300 darshan first, then a room and travel. Day one: reach Tirupati, visit Padmavathi temple at Tiruchanur and go up the hill. Day two: darshan, laddu, annaprasadam and nearby spots.

Questions

Questions about a first Tirupati trip

What first timers ask us most.

How many days are enough for Tirupati?

Two days are enough for most families: one day to reach and visit Tiruchanur, one day for Tirumala darshan. Add a day for Srikalahasti or Kanipakam.

What should I book first for Tirupati?

Book darshan first, usually the ₹300 Special Entry ticket, as it sells out fastest. Then book a room and travel around that date.

Should we visit Padmavathi temple before Tirumala?

Many devotees visit Padmavathi Ammavari at Tiruchanur first, as a tradition. Read our Padmavathi temple page.

Can we do Tirumala darshan in one day?

Yes, with a ₹300 ticket and an early start, a one day trip is possible from nearby cities like Chennai or Bangalore.

What is the dress code for first time visitors?

Traditional clothes only. Men in dhoti or kurta pyjama with upper cloth, women in saree or churidar with dupatta. See dress code rules.

Is food available at Tirumala?

Yes. TTD serves free annaprasadam meals to devotees, and there are many vegetarian hotels on the hill.

Where should first timers stay?

A TTD room at Tirumala is closest to the temple. If none is available, stay in Tirupati town and go up early.

What mistakes do first timers make?

Coming without a ticket on weekends, wearing western clothes, carrying phones into the queue and trusting agents. Avoid these and the trip is easy.
